By creating an account, downloading the ShiftHands Mac app or otherwise using shifthands.com, the web app or the Mac app (the “Service”), you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you use ShiftHands for a company or other organization, you confirm you’re allowed to accept these Terms for it, and “you” includes that organization.
If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.
2. Who can use ShiftHands
You must be at least [Minimum age, e.g. 18] years old and able to form a binding contract. You can’t use the Service if the law where you live forbids it, or if we’ve previously closed your account for breaking these Terms.
3. Your account
Give us a real email address you control, and keep your details up to date.
Keep your password, passkeys, recovery codes and signed-in devices safe. You’re responsible for activity on your account and on the Macs you connect to it.
Tell us right away at support@shifthands.com if you think someone else has access to your account.
One person per account. Don’t share, sell or transfer your account.
4. How the Service works
ShiftHands lets you set up a crew of AI agents, give them instructions and automations, and check in on them from a browser or phone. The agents run in the ShiftHands Mac app on a Mac you own and keep running (your “agent host”). Our servers keep your account and workspace setup, and a relay passes live traffic between your devices and your Mac.
For agents to work, your Mac needs to be on, awake, online and signed in, with the ShiftHands app open. You’re responsible for your Mac, its security, its internet connection and any software you install on it.
The Mac app checks for and installs updates from download.shifthands.com. Some updates may be required to keep using the Service. We may add, change or remove features over time. Features marked beta or preview may be unfinished and may change or go away.
5. Your AI accounts and third-party tools
ShiftHands doesn’t sell or provide AI models. Your agents use AI accounts you connect yourself, for example Claude (through Claude Code), ChatGPT/Codex, or API keys for providers such as OpenRouter, OpenAI or DeepSeek. Optional tools such as Jev (by TypeSafe) and Ego Lite are also run by other companies.
Your use of each provider or tool is governed by your agreement with that provider, including its terms, usage policies, rate limits and prices. You’re responsible for following them, and for any fees they charge you.
You’re responsible for making sure your provider plan allows the way you use it through ShiftHands.
We don’t control these providers and aren’t responsible for their availability, output, pricing, changes or how they handle your data. If a provider suspends your account or changes its service, some ShiftHands features may stop working.
API keys you add stay on your Mac, in the macOS Keychain. We never ask for your AI passwords.
6. You’re responsible for your agents
Your agents act on your instructions, on your Mac, with your accounts and permissions. Anything an agent does (sending a message or email, posting, buying, changing or deleting files or data, or acting in a website or account you’ve given it access to) is done on your behalf, and you’re responsible for it as if you’d done it yourself.
AI makes mistakes. Agents can misread instructions, produce wrong or offensive output, or take actions you didn’t expect. Check important work before you rely on it.
Use the approval settings for anything risky, like sending messages, spending money or deleting data, and review your automations from time to time.
Only give agents access to accounts, files and websites you’re allowed to use, and follow those sites’ rules, including their rules on automated access.
Don’t rely on agents for medical, legal, financial or safety-critical decisions without a qualified person checking.
7. Acceptable use
Don’t use ShiftHands, or let your agents use it, to:
break any law or anyone else’s rights, including privacy, intellectual property and consumer-protection laws;
send spam or unsolicited bulk messages, or run scams, phishing or fraud;
harass, threaten, defame or impersonate anyone, or create content that exploits or harms children;
access accounts, systems or data you’re not authorized to, get around security measures, or scrape sites against their terms;
create or spread malware, or attack, overload or disrupt any service, including ours;
break your AI provider’s usage policies;
probe, reverse engineer or interfere with the Service, or get around plan limits, except where the law allows it;
resell the Service or use it to build a competing product without our written permission.
We may investigate suspected misuse and suspend or limit accounts to protect people or the Service.
8. Your content
You keep all rights to what you put into ShiftHands and what your agents produce for you (“your content”), subject to your AI providers’ terms. Most of it stays on your Mac. For the parts that reach our servers (like agent instructions, automation tasks and messages queued for your Mac), you give us permission to store, copy and send them only as needed to run the Service for you. We don’t use your content to train AI models.
You’re responsible for your content and for having the rights to use it. Keep your own backups of anything important on your Mac.
9. Plans and billing
Free: no charge, with daily limits described on our pricing page.
Pro: $49.99 a month or $499 a year, with the limits removed as described on the pricing page.
Paid billing isn’t live yet. Tapping “Reserve Pro” records your interest and doesn’t charge you or commit you to buy. We’ll tell you before any charge.
[Billing terms to add before billing launches, with counsel: payment processor; automatic renewal and how to cancel; when charges happen; refund policy; free trials; taxes; failed payments and downgrades; price change notice period (e.g. 30 days).]
AI provider fees are separate. You pay your AI providers directly under your own accounts.
10. Our property
ShiftHands, including its software, design, name and logo, belongs to [Company legal name] and its licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service, including installing the Mac app on Macs you own or control, for as long as you follow these Terms. Some parts of the app include open-source software under their own licenses.
If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.
11. Ending your use
You can stop any time and delete your account in Settings → Profile → Delete account. Deleting it removes your account and workspace from our servers, as described in the Privacy Policy. Data on your Mac stays there until you remove it.
We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if we must by law, or if your use puts others or the Service at risk. Where it’s reasonable, we’ll warn you first and give you a chance to download your data. We may also stop offering the Service; if we do, we’ll give you reasonable notice [e.g. 30 days] and [refund terms for prepaid periods].
Sections 6, 8 (your responsibility for your content), 10 and 12 to 16 keep applying after your account ends.
12. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DON’T PROMISE THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR SECURE, THAT AUTOMATIONS WILL RUN ON TIME, OR THAT ANY AI OUTPUT OR AGENT ACTION WILL BE ACCURATE, COMPLETE OR SUITABLE FOR YOUR PURPOSE.
Some places don’t allow these disclaimers, so some of them may not apply to you.
13. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, [COMPANY LEGAL NAME] AND ITS OWNERS, EMPLOYEES AND SUPPLIERS WON’T BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA OR GOODWILL, OR FOR ACTIONS TAKEN BY YOUR AGENTS, YOUR AI PROVIDERS OR OTHER THIRD PARTIES, EVEN IF WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE POSSIBLE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ABOUT THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE [12] MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR [US$100].
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law.
14. Indemnity
If someone makes a claim against us because of your content, your agents’ actions, your use of the Service or your breach of these Terms or of an AI provider’s terms, you agree to cover our reasonable costs and losses from that claim, to the extent the law allows.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of [Governing law state/country], without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the courts located in [Venue: county, state], unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it elsewhere. [Optional, ask counsel: arbitration clause, class-action waiver, small-claims option.]
Before filing a claim, please email support@shifthands.com so we can try to sort it out informally first.
16. Changes and everything else
We may update these Terms. We’ll post changes here and update the date at the top, and for significant changes we’ll tell you by email or in the app before they take effect. If you keep using the Service after that, you accept the new Terms.
These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service. If part of them can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a term right away, we haven’t given up the right to. You can’t transfer these Terms without our permission; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
