How the agent workflows differ

Both apps run coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex. The difference is where you start a task, where its context lives, how you step in and where you review the result.

Where you start a task

ShiftHands

You message an agent inside a project, from the Mac app or any browser.

BridgeMind

You pick a mode: a teammate in Agent mode, a terminal or thread in Code mode, or a standalone chat.

Where the context lives

ShiftHands

In the project. Each agent keeps its own chat, history and model.

BridgeMind

In the teammate's memory and skills, or in the project folder's terminals, threads and files.

How you step in

ShiftHands

You reply in the agent's chat, answer flagged commands, or take over its browser.

BridgeMind

You type into the live terminal or coding thread, or message the teammate in its chat.

Where you review the result

ShiftHands

In the agent's chat, where automations post a result card.

BridgeMind

In the coding thread and project files, or in the fresh chat a routine opens.

Where agents run and what you need

The coding-agent workflows compared here run commands on your computer. Hosted model requests go to the provider you connect. Scheduled work depends on the host computer and app remaining available.

ShiftHands

  • A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer), macOS 13 or later and 8 GB of RAM or more.
  • The ShiftHands Mac app, open, with the Mac switched on while agents work.
  • A supported AI account: Claude via Claude Code, or ChatGPT via Codex. Some other models connect with an API key.
  • Other devices, including Windows PCs and phones, can watch and chat through a browser. They do not become agent hosts.

BridgeMind

  • A paid BridgeMind plan: you sign in, then choose Basic, Pro or Ultra.
  • The coding-agent CLIs you want, already installed on your computer, with your own AI accounts.
  • A supported computer. The pricing page lists macOS 14 or later, Windows 10 or 11 (x64) and Linux (x86_64).
  • Its docs list macOS 26 for BridgeMind One, Windows as in development and Linux as not supported.

Check first BridgeMind's pricing page and its docs disagree on platforms. Confirm the current requirements with BridgeMind before you subscribe.

Scheduling, approvals and reviewing results

Both apps can start work on a schedule. Both need the host computer on and the app open when it runs.

ShiftHands

  • Automations run scheduled work and post a result card in the agent's chat.
  • Free lists 2 daily automations.
  • Pro advertises flexible schedules and no plan-level automation cap, subject to fair use. Pro checkout is not live.
  • Flagged commands wait for you: Allow once or Deny, from your desk or phone.
  • Approval behavior depends on agent settings. Not every file change or send is gated.

BridgeMind

  • Routines schedule a teammate to start repeatable work.
  • Each run opens a fresh chat, so the result stays separate from other conversations.
  • Routines run only while BridgeMind One is open.
  • BridgeMind's website describes reviewing approvals in Thread mode. Its docs recommend explicit approval for publishing, deletion and spending. These sources do not establish that every action is automatically gated.

Browser use and access from your phone

A browser pane, an agent that browses, and phone access are three different things. Here is what each app documents.

ShiftHands

  • Agents and their helpers browse in their own browsers on your Mac: they can click and fill in forms.
  • You watch live, take control when a site needs a human, then hand control back.
  • Browser use needs Ego Lite, a free agent browser from Citro Labs. It is a separate download with its own terms.
  • From a phone browser you can read agent chats, reply and answer flagged commands.

BridgeMind

  • Code mode has a browser pane for inspecting a local or remote web surface beside your code.
  • It can also show an iOS Simulator inside the workspace.
  • We did not find agent-operated browsing with human handover in the first-party pages we read.
  • Phone access is not verified: the pages we read do not describe it.

Supported agents, model access and voice

For coding-agent model access, both use your own supported AI subscriptions or API keys. Provider charges and limits are separate from the app plan.

ShiftHands

  • Sign in with your Claude account through Claude Code, or your ChatGPT account through Codex.
  • DeepSeek, GLM, Kimi and Qwen connect with your own API key, added in the Mac app.
  • Gemini and Grok are not available yet.
  • Usage left on your plan shows under every reply. No voice feature is listed.

BridgeMind

  • Launches coding CLIs already installed on your computer, such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor Agent, Gemini CLI and GitHub Copilot.
  • Its pricing page names Claude, ChatGPT/Codex and SuperGrok subscriptions, or your own API key. Your provider bills its own usage.
  • BridgeMind credits cover metered app features, not usage through your connected coding-agent accounts.
  • BridgeVoice dictation comes with Pro and Ultra.

Pricing, free limits and paid-plan availability

Frequently asked questions

What is the main difference between ShiftHands and BridgeMind?

ShiftHands organizes agents by project and lets you supervise them from a browser or phone. BridgeMind is a desktop app for working directly with coding agents, in terminals, threads and named teammates.

Does ShiftHands run on Windows or Intel Macs?

No. ShiftHands agents run on an Apple-silicon Mac with macOS 13 or later. A Windows PC or phone can watch and chat through a browser, but it cannot host the agents.

Does BridgeMind run on Windows and Linux?

Its pricing page lists Windows 10 or 11 and Linux. Its docs list Windows as in development and Linux as not supported. Confirm with BridgeMind before you rely on either.

Can I supervise agents from my phone?

With ShiftHands, yes: any browser, including a phone, can read agent chats, reply and answer flagged commands. We could not verify phone access for BridgeMind.

Do I pay for AI models on top of the app?

Model access is separate from the app plan. A supported subscription you already pay for may cover your usage; API charges and any extra usage follow your provider's terms. BridgeMind credits cover its own metered features, not usage through your connected coding-agent accounts.

Is there a free plan?

ShiftHands Free includes 25 agent messages a day, 1 project and 3 agents. BridgeMind lists no free plan; Basic starts at $20 a month.

If I switch from BridgeMind, will I keep my terminal workflow?

Not in the same form. ShiftHands is built around agent chats and supervision, not terminal panes. If live terminals are central to your work, BridgeMind fits that better.
